Artist Statement
Moderne: Art Deco Inspired Millinery
This body of work has been inspired by theatrical themes and is informed by the early 20th century art movements such as Art Nouveau and Art deco. My sculptural, wearable artworks are reminiscent of Paris in the 1920s, an era renowned for its glamour, functionality and modernity. Art Deco explored the decorative arts and influenced architecture, aviation, design, and fashion. The movement was characterised by geometric shapes and angular compositions, with a love of decorative and exotic fabrics and designs from many different cultures. This era is set to make a comeback in fashion with the soon to be released Hollywood move 'The Great Gatsby' directed by Baz Luhrman.
